iNine Factory Tour

By: Matt Williams

By now you’ve probably heard of Industry Nine. The Asheville, NC wheelmaker has made a name for itself thanks to their incredibly fast 3-degree engagement. The innovations in iNine wheels go beyond the driver mechanism though. Industry Nine uses proprietary straight-pull aluminum spokes that eliminate the traditional weak points of a j-bend spoke and add incredible stiffness to boot. You can also get them in a virtually infinite array of custom color combinations.

iNine employees ride a lot and the demanding trails in the Pisgah National Forest are the ideal test ground for these unique and inventive wheel designs. Fewer than 15 employees are involved in production from start to finish; in many ways iNine has more in common with a custom frame builder than with a traditional component maker.

MTBRacenews recently toured iNine’s factory in Asheville to learn more about what goes into making these unique, high-end wheels. Scroll through the photos to see how an iNine wheel is born.
